Viking Warrior Champion Belt Set in Mammen Style
-
Description
Many years ago I was asked to design a belt as a prize for a Viking warrior contest.
This was the Mammen style belt I designed for the champion. (Although some details of that belt are exclusive and are not for sale). It is very solid and heavy.
I love the Mammen style, from the late 10th – early 11th century. I chose a strong simple shape for the buckle, then took a pattern from the Cammin casket for the beast on the attached plate. The strap end was taken from the bronze castings of birds (eagle or raven) on the casket. It was a real pleasure to be able to take as inspiration this outstanding artwork of the Viking Age for such a unique belt.
The buckle plate and strap end are attached by heavy integral rivets (spikes). These can be riveted to a back plate, or simply belt over to attach them directly to the belt.
I also designed a matching belt stud – you can find it further down in the belt fittings section.
If you want your buckle set put on a belt, see the Viking belt offer at the start of this Belt Fittings section.
Takes strap 35mm wide. Strap end length 55mm.
Weight of Sterling Silver Set 125g (Weight may vary from piece to piece)
