Small Viking Raven Pendant
-
Description
This tiny raven design was originally used to decorate a Viking nail cleaner, but I decided to use it for my small raven pendant. It is a neat little pattern in Borre style from the 9th - 10th centuries.
The raven was a potent motif in Viking art as a symbol of wisdom. As a spirit animal, the raven could act as guide to the shaman to the Otherworld. Odin, as god of magic, has two ravens Huginn and Muninn – Thought and Memory – who aid him in his constant quest for wisdom. He is referred to as Hrafnguth, the Raven god.
