Eastern Style Buckle Set with Spirals
-
Description
This is a common type of buckle set, originating amongst the eastern steppe nomads of the Russian plains. The design with spirals was very widespread, being traded throughout Viking lands and also produced in Gotland. I have copied the buckle from a Gotlandic find, and the strap end was actually found in Iceland – bearing witness to how far west this eastern design with spirals travelled!
Just like the originals, there are integral rivets (spikes) on the back for easy fitting (they can just be bent over).
If you want your buckle set put on a belt, see the Viking belt offer at the start of this Belt Fittings section.
Takes a strap 16mm wide, tapering to the strap end. Strap end length 47mm (nearly 2 inches).
Weight in Sterling Silver set 30g (Weight may vary from piece to piece)
